Lottery System (first 2 weeks of the semester)
Cub-E is a program that helps student organizations table throughout the academic year. During the first two weeks of classes, Cub-E is an incredibly popular program. Therefore, Cub-E will allocate reservations based on a lottery system to ensure that as many organizations as possible have an opportunity to table.
Lottery System Details:
- Each day, 50 student groups that need Cub-E equipment (tables/chairs), and at least 150 student groups with their own equipment, will be selected to table. Refer to the Cub-E Lottery Map for reference.
- Selected groups will be notified by 5pm on August 22nd.
- Selected groups must check in between 8am-10am to obtain a daily tabling permit and (if needed) their equipment
- After 10am, any unclaimed reservations will be given to other student groups on a first-come, first-served basis.
Expanded Tabling Locations (Aug 27th – Sept 5th)
- Student groups without a canopy may table on Upper Sproul.
- Student groups with a canopy may table on Dwinelle or Wheeler Plaza (please note canopy restrictions are to maximize space and accommodate more organizations).
After September 5th: Beginning Monday, September 8th, Cub-E tabling will no longer be available at Dwinelle or Wheeler Plaza (though may be reserved through Event Services).
Tip: Due to limited equipment, bringing your own table (and chairs) increases your chances of being assigned a tabling space.

Terms & Conditions
For the first (2) weeks of the fall and spring semester tabling on Upper Sproul, Dwinelle and Wheeler is limited. Spots will be allocated by the Cub-E staff via a randomized selection process. By entering, you agree to adhere to the following policies:
- Daily Check In and Tabling Permits: All student groups must check in daily at the Cub-E tent ( located to the left of the Bear’s Cafe) to receive a tabling permit. Permits are valid for one day only.
- Equipment Check Out: Cub-E equipment is available Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm, on a first-come, first-served basis post lottery.
- Location Restrictions: Tabling is not permitted on the red bricks or blocking pathways or entrances. Groups who violate these restrictions will be asked to relocate and may risk being blocked from using Cub-E during the remainder of the semester.
- Equipment Supervision: Cub-E equipment must not be left unattended. If a student group is unable to staff your table for a period of time, they are expected to return all equipment to Cub-E staff. Once equipment is returned, it will be available for checkout by any student group on stand-by.
- Equipment Responsibility: Once equipment is checked out, the student organization is fully responsible for all Cub-E equipment. A fee of $100 per table and $50 per chair will be invoiced to their group for any missing or damaged equipment. Until the fee is paid, their group will be blocked from tabling for the rest of the semester and may impact their eligibility for the following semester’s lottery.
- Equipment Return Deadline: All equipment must be returned to Cub-E by 5pm. Groups will be contacted if they do not return equipment and given until 5:30pm to return. After 5:30pm, equipment is considered overdue and must be returned at 9am the next business day. Late returns may result in an infraction, a block from the next semester’s lottery and/or being charged the missing equipment fees.
- Amplified Sound Policy: Amplified Sound is only allowed 12pm – 1pm and 5pm – 7pm. Please contact your student group advisor or Event Services for guidance on the approval process for outside of these hours.
- Berkeley Campus Regulations: Groups tabling with Cub-E must adhere to the Berkeley Campus Regulations.
- Strike Policy: There is a 3 strike system for Cub-E. If a student group receives 3 strikes, they will be blocked from tabling for the remainder of the semester. Please see page 3 of the Terms and Conditions and Infractions document for a more detailed explanation regarding the different strike types and their consequences.
Additional Terms & Conditions During Lottery Period
During the first (2) weeks of the fall and spring semester tabling on Upper Sproul, Dwinelle and Wheeler Plazas is limited. Tabling spots will be allocated by the Cub-E staff via a randomized selection process. By participating in the lottery system, you agree to adhere with the following addition terms and conditions (in addition to the above T&Cs):
- Permit & Equipment Pickup: Lottery-selected groups must check in at the Cub-E tent for the daily tabling permit and pick up reserved equipment between 8am – 10am. Failure to arrive during this time without prior communication to Cub-E staff will result in a forfeiture of your reservation.
- Standby Tabling (Post 10 AM): Groups not selected in the lottery may be able to table if there are available spots or equipment (if needed). After 10am, any unclaimed tabling spaces and equipment will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Designated Tabling Location: During the lottery period, tabling is only permitted on Upper Sproul, Dwinelle and Wheeler Plazas. After the first two weeks, tabling is restricted to Upper Sproul only for the remainder of the semester. Groups who attempt to table in unauthorized locations will be asked to relocate and may have their organization’s entry in the randomized reservation process removed.
